Welcome to Ashton Maxwell Funeral Directors in Streatham. We are here for you during your time of need, to help make things a little easier and arrange a heartfelt funeral that pays tribute to your loved one’s life.
We used to be known as Maxwell & Sons, until our name changed to Maxwell Brothers in 1879 and now more recently we are Ashton Maxwell. We have a long history of caring for families, having opened on Brixton Road in 1842. Back then, the undertaking was only a part of what we did, with building and decorating also playing a large part in how we helped people. We now focus solely on arranging funeral services, with a wealth of specialist knowledge and expertise that we will use to help you.
We are always striving to set the bar in funeral standards, so you can expect nothing but the utmost compassion and professionalism from our team as they guide and support you.

From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Nicola at Maxwell Funeral Directors was really supportive and considerate throughout and arranged for a beautiful memorial tablet for our Dad's grave in time for the anniversary. We highly recommend Maxwell Funeral Directors and Nicola. Thank you
My meetings and messages with Nicola Thompson at Ashton Maxwell have always been professional and helpful, the attention to detail and extensive knowledge have made the process much easier to deal with.
I doubt I could find myself in better hands.
My resident was picked up from Camberwell Lodge Care Home in the least dignified way! The undertakers were too quick, pushed the body and not carried them - despite there being two undertakers! Then put them on the side walk in a residential area with a school around! I called them straight away and they said they would call me back - they had not!
We usually recommend Albins and Udens - use them for dignified care for your loved one!
Maxwell Brothers were the perfect choice for Mums funeral. They were professional, respectful and always there to help. Nicola was amazing at supporting us through a difficult time and Mauricio was super respectful when it came to the funeral itself and all dealings. Generally a very nice group of people to deal with in a time when you need it. Highly recommend.
